On 26 February 2021, Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH conducted a pioneering news conference – directly from our Studio 1.

In a one-hour news briefing moderated by Jörg Nielsen, Dr. Fabian Ziegler, Chairman of the Managing Board of Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH, and Dr. Marco Richrath, Director of the Shell Rhineland Refinery, announced big news: the Shell Rhineland Refinery, the largest in Germany with its plant sections sprawling across the Godorf and Wesseling districts, will play a key role in achieving Shell’s zero-emission targets and in innovatively manufacturing more climate-friendly products and services. The regenerative solutions will leverage the production of synthetic aircraft fuels and biofuels, along with green hydrogen. At the same time, the two top managers announced that the Shell Rhineland Refinery was to be transformed into the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rhineland, including an energy campus.

The news generated enormous interest in Germany-wide media, and the responses on all channels praised Shell’s commitment to transforming itself from a CO2 driver to a solution-finder and radical emissions-slasher. Shell is becoming a major player in the energy transformation and mobility of tomorrow.
